Shame on me! Pay attention, please . . .

dancer - artist unknown (by me)

The de Young Museum at Golden Gate Park is full of amazing art treasures. Spending 3+hours there two weeks ago sent me into visual overload. Photography was allowed in the majority of exhibits, so I went nuts. Unfortunately I neglected to note most of the artists' names. Shame on me! I promise to do better from now on, because while the work does speak for itself, the maker's identity matters as well.

took many photos of this piece, artist unknown (by me)

detail of a great painting, artist unknown (by me)

Edward Hopper
have always loved his work

Wayne Thiebaud
I'm now the owner of a book about his work

Al Farrow
we were all fascinated by this work,
which is made entirely of bullets, shells and gun parts

  1. I didn't know if you'd find my comment if I left it on other than this top post, so this is where I'm leaving it! Your photographs of Chinatown remind me of the year my wife and I spent living in Alameda, with weekly trips to the city. One of our favorite haunts was Chinatown, as I'd really fallen for Oriental calligraphy and advertising art by that time. Of course it was forty years ago, but it really hasn't changed that much, has it?

  2. Thanks for the comment. This was my first trip to Chinatown and I fell in love. I'm so glad to hear that you don't think it's changed that much. There were a lot of junk souvenirs (t-shirts and such), but the beauty of the buildings and charm of the calligraphy and advertising still shine through.
